It is common for doctors to recommend that women have yearly breast exams and skin cancer screenings. On top of these common screenings, depending on their specific medical history, doctors may recommend that they start to have the following exams every year:
Mammogram: Currently, there is not a unanimous opinion in the medical community on how often women under the age of 50 should have mammograms. However, if you have a history of breast cancer in your family, then your doctor may recommend annual mammograms once you are in your 40s. They may even suggest that you start to have regular mammography appointments at an even earlier age.
Blood Pressure: After age 45 blood pressure tests are commonly recommended at least every 2 years. During a checkup, your doctor will use a blood pressure monitor or blood pressure check up machine to determine whether you have a normal blood pressure or high blood pressure. If you are in the high range or you have certain medical conditions, including diabetes, heart disease, or kidney disease, then it may be recommended that you have your blood pressure checked every year.
Cholesterol: If you are not at high risk for heart disease then you will probably not need regular testing for high cholesterol until you are at least 45. Once you hit that age, a doctor may recommend annual screenings of your cholesterol levels.
